The Mystery of the Disappearing Posts!

No - not a newly discovered Agatha Christie novel. I've noticed some of my posts seem to vanish into the ether and I don't know if or where they turn up! Sometimes I post and when I click on submit it vanishes - doesn't appear as a new post but I don't get the message about it going for moderation either. Is this another post apocalyptic gremlin?

That is happening to me too. It is since the site went down. The number of times it has told me I have to wait between posts is unbelievable especially as there is no previous post, then it double posts so I have to delete one.
The site is not functioning as it should and the quirks need sorting out.

Just done it again, I am losing the will to be bothered with this site.

everything i write goes to 'moderator' plus posts i start. i wouldnt mind this but soetimes they dont appear at all on the site. It feels like a waste of time. I havent been able to contact the admin either. iv been trying for 3 days but nothing happens when clicking on 'contact us' at bottom of page. I made a forum post about this yesterday but it went to modertor and hasnt appeared either lol. Im wondering if this post will dissapear too. here goes....

As I've mentioned elsewhere it seems to be Internet Explorer that is giving the main problems.

If you can switch to a different browser such as Firefox, Google Chrome or Opera then all seems OK.

Just in case for a while, if I am going to write a long post I do it in a text editor, eg. Wordpad, and then copy and paste it into the forum reply box.
That way you can also save a copy on your computer for a while.

Admin know about the current glitches and I'm sure they are trying to get them sorted ASAP.

Remember at this time of year admin and moderators are also under pressure keeping the Xmas spammers out of general sight.
You would be amazed how many you don't see because of the spam-o-matic, as an example on another site I have banned 40+ advertising spammers today.

I too moderate on another site and we are in the same boat, umpteen spammers that are screened out. One did get through today, as the occasional one does, and they were advertising a porn site. Us mods stopped them in their tracks as the site is watched almost continually by one or the other of us.

I also mod on another site and the occasional spammer manages to get through but almost all are screened out. If members could see, there are hundreds. Today we had one advertising a porn site that slipped through. They were stopped in their tracks as us mods watch the site almost continually.

I'm aware that if I start a post then wander off to make a bite to eat that the post can still be worked on but will have timed out.

So now I'll copy the text before pressing send.

The text above the dialogue box indicates I need to log-in.

So, now I log in and paste text in new dialogue box then press once to send. It may depend on how fast your broadband is and how much 'traffic' is using your broadband as to how quickly it's downloading your message.

Right - now to put the theory to the test!!

If you tick the "Remember Me" button when you log in then it shouldn't log you out like that.

If you don't tick it then you will be logged out after a certain idle time, but confusingly you can keep typing into the reply box.
It's only when you come to change page (clicking 'submit' changes the page) that it tells you you have been logged out.

I have had this situation happen in the past:- forgot to tick 'Remember Me', took 20 or 30 mins typing a reply, even without leaving the keyboard got timed out because I wasn't changing the page so the software clocked me as being idle.

I am a moderator on another site also so am aware of spammers - they come in waves I find!

Switching to another browser is not possible on work pc It is possible on home pc but tbh I trundle on ok with IE for all the criticism of it so don't really want to change. I used firefox a few years ago and found some sites that I regularly used at the time displayed an unreadable font but were ok in IE. That was some time ago, however. I'll bear it in mind.

I am getting logged out too, LT. It's usually ok while I'm here but when I come back the next day I have to log in again even though I tick the remember me box.
