WAV travel in the 2nd row, not in the boot!

A new WAV has been added to the Motability scheme, which has the wheelchair occupant able to be seated in the middle of the 2nd row of seats, not in the boot like other WAVs. Based on the Ford Custom Tourneo it can have 7 seats plus the wheelchair. We have a demonstrator available for anyone who is interested, or knows anyone who needs a WAV of this type. It was on show at the Exeter One Big Day Motability show, but was not at the other One Big Day shows so we are offering personal demonstrations to people who have been unable to seen this new WAV concept.

Nice looking van and conversion although most medium size WAV conversions allow the wheelchair occupant to sit in the second row, ie VW transporter, renault trafic , peugeot expert , mercedes vito etc.
Does this new vehicle come with automatic transmission as an option ?

At present it is not available with an automatic. The real difference here is that the ramp is so slight as it continues through the floor pan from the ramp, it rises only 355mm (14") in 3.9m (12' 9.5"), that occupants of powered chairs can drive themselves in to position, rather than using a lift or be winched up a ramp as with other WAVs. Also the wheelchair user is in the middle of 2 other seats, so for a family of 6, with one wheelchair user, they can all sit together in 2 rows of seats with the option of 2 additional seats in the back for friends when they come along for the ride as well.

Funny how Ford steer away from automatics, last one in a van was the 2.0 DOHC petrol back in the late 90's, I'm sure they are missing out on sales.
