Dealer did not complete work they said they had done, also repeated work already done

Hi,

I picked my car up from a local dealer after it had been in for a major service, only to be told that they had also replaced the rear brake discs and pads. The brake discs and pads were replaced two weeks ago by Kwik-Fit. I also noticed that the oil is dirty and the air filter has not been touched; I really do not think they have done the service.

I cannot understand why Motability would authorise a change of brakes after only two weeks.
Has anybody had problems like this before and how did they sort it out?

This is bad. I thought main dealer did brakes, kwik fit tyres only.

Even if they flushed the oil, new engine oil looks black almost instantly because of the carbon that is not removed along with the old oil.

Not every service involves changing the air filter element - some items last a surprisingly long time on modern cars.


However, as you have concerns, I'd consider contacting Motability to share those concerns with them.

Kwik-fit, I believe are authrosied to change tyres, exhausts and brake discs dependent on your location - I presume if you don't have a dealership nearby.
In your case though I would be on the phone to Motability and ask why the job has been done twice.

Motability state that...

Services will usually include the following checks:

• Engine oil
• Windscreen washer fluid
• Engine cooling system
• Lights
• Tyre tread
• Tyre pressure - including the spare tyre

The service for each type of car will be different. Other checks for brake pads or filters, for example, will be looked at if it is recommended by the manufacturer.

Funny but sadly very true. There are still a few good KF branches out there but they seem few and far between these days. Then again I've also heard some horror stories concerning servicing from some so called prestige marque dealers too. It's not fair to paint an entire industry with the same brush but the motor trade, like estate agents, do seem to have a disproportionate number of crooks and liars who work in them.

i purchased an ex motability vechicle lasty yr, it was only 3 years old. I took it in for a service this year and got prices etc. They told me that no major services are every done on motability cars even if they are touching the max mileage.
