Making a New IR ESA Claim How Soon Before Receiving Payment

Just a quick question how long does it take DWP to process a new claim for IR ESA

Because as their seems to be problems & backlogs in the system with ESA assessments & re-assessments

I wonder how soon the claimant receive their letter of their awarded payment & when payments will be made

Getting onto the assessment rate should take no more than 2-3 weeks, especially if you provide a 'fit note' with the claim.

The assessment is likely to take many months. When the assessment takes place, if you are placed in the Work Related Activity Group or the Support Group, the additional money is backdated to the beginning of the 13th week of the claim.

ILLMAN is currently on Income Related ESA pending tribunal. I believe his questions were aimed at finding out what will happen if he loses at tribunal and reclaims ESA immediately. He can return immediately to the assessment rate with a 'fit note' as the Fit for Work decision he is appealing against was more than six months ago (1 May 2013 to be precise).
