Thread: NHS specialist, wanting to leave them.

NHS specialist, wanting to leave them.

I would like some advice please.

I have a specialist I was referred to on the NHS. I have been to see them a few times, but I really don't want to continue with them for a few reasons, but they are serious.
I feel very uncomfortable with them, I haven't discussed it with my GP as he says I should talk about everything to do with my conditions with this specialist.

I don't think they can help me, their approach is not what I am after. However I don't want it to seem like I am being awkward or not wanting any help or not trying to get better, if you know what I mean.

Does anyone have any advice for me please?

You are allowed to change your consultants especially if you don't feel comfortable with them, you can stop any treatment at anytime its an individuals right if they have treatment or not and whom they see. I don't understand what you mean about don't think they can help you and not the approach you want, most docs will tell you if they can't help your conditions and if you don't agree with what they want to do you can tell them this and ask if there is any alternative to what they want to do. I've been under various docs for over 40yrs and unlike most people i say what i think and ask for what i want. The only time its a problem is for people who need specialists to help with regard benefits for example if you don't look for treatment else where it may be seen that you aren't trying to help yourself unless its a condition that can't be made better just controlled in which case it shouldn't make any difference to your benefit if you go for treatment or not. Good luck with it
