Housing Benefit Calculator! CONFUSION ? ! (example given) Total Applicable amount?

Check out this housing benefit calculator:

    http://www.knowsley.gov.uk/benefitscalculator/

Where you plug in your details, age, other benefits etc.

After this you hit calculate and it gives 2 figures at the bottom.

    1) The total Applicable Amount figure is = £____
    2) Weekly Housing Benefit Award: = £____ (same for council tax support)

but after calculation, these figures of 1) and 2) are different to each other,

which is where the confusion is

    a) which on of them is the actual figure, of the amount of housing benefit entitled to be received ? (assuming all the entered details are accurate)

    b) What does the total Applicable Amount figure represent ?

(I dont mean the amount as a figure £, but what does this represent ? - is this how much Housing benefit they could be eligible for?)

    c) how often is it paid? - in this applicable amount figure ?

    d) and out of the 2, (1, 2) which amount is the person doing the calculation eligible for?

    e) ie, what figure is correct amount of H-benefit that the claimant (doing the calculation) is entitled too?

the Total applicable amount figure ? (1)
or the Weekly benefit award ? (2)

applicable amount is what you are allowed to have in income, lets say couple £114 + child £60 = £174per week, if your total money is that figure or below you will qualify for full HB/CTS so nothing to pay.

if you get anything over the applicable amount the council will take 65% of that figure off your HB allowance and you would have to pay it.

lets say you get £184 per week thats £10 over the applicable amount so you would have to pay £6.50 towards your rent, they use the same for CTS.. although its a bit different now as a lot more people that didnt pay now have to
