VIP Guests this year included:

HRH The Duchess of Gloucester who officially opened the Roadshow and met visitors and exhibitors

Glenda Jackson, Transport Minister, who said the Government was working hard to implement the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). “There will be consultation very shortly on the proposals for taxis, for buses and coaches and for trains. In each case we will be requiring new vehicles to be fully accessible to all disabled people.”

Highlight features included:

Introduction of the first Information Village where visitors could seek a wealth of advice from support and voluntary organisations, charities and publications. The Village has remained a permanent feature, growing from strength to strength.

Mogo Electric Vehicles introduced The Mogo, a new concept in electrically powered vehicles – and easily dismantled for transport by car, bus, train or plane - for people who have difficulty walking but do not need a powered wheelchair or scooter.

The first website dedicated to the Mobility Roadshow was launched by the Department of Transport.
In the Motoring Arena there was a wealth of new vehicle conversions and several new developments in the bus and coach sector, such as new lower floors, reflecting the anticipated changes needed to comply with the DDA.
Skid car test driving in a Ford Mondeo Automatic fitted with hand controls as well as hand control go-karts for young disabled visitors.

We are delighted to see many of our visitors year on year, eager to keep up-to-date with the latest innovations. The gentleman on the left was helping on one of the stands in 1997 and spotted among those at ‘opening doors’ on the first day of the 2012 Roadshow at Peterborough (far left).
Many of you have told us how much you are enjoying reading these memories of past Roadshows. We’d love to hear yours. It’s easy to contribute here (link) and you will automatically be in with a chance to win the latest iPad mini.
