Using a Mobility Scooter can transform the lives of those with Mobility Challenges, giving back much needed freedom and independence. These “marvellous machines” though are not free, and for some funding one is virtually impossible.
Having heard about a charity which does offer help to purchase mobility equipment I thought it was worth exploring what other charitable organisations are out there and sharing these with you.
Margarets Fund
Founded in 1927 –this fund is for women in ill health, and gives grants for Mobility Scooters, wheelchairs, holidays, clothing etc. You cannot apply directly for funding, this needs to be done via a health professional i.e., doctor, social worker, etc

The Elifar Foundation
Primarily for the assistance of children and young adults with physical or learning disability this charity (established in the 70’s) looks to help purchase equipment, respite, and therapies not currently provided for.

SF Group Charitable Fund for Disabled People
Established in 2003 the SF Group (the recruitment people) formed a charity funded by employee contributions, company profits and fundraising efforts to help disabled people primarily in the North West, East & West Midlands.

Established in 1897 this long standing charity has been helping the poorer in our community for over 100 years. Still actively involved in helping provide advice, and source funding for a wide variety of projects.

Aftaid – Aid for the aged in distress
Providing help for the elderly in times of distress, Aftaid provides funding for almost anything need by an elderly person in crisis. Funding has been given for everything from Mobility Scooters to washing machines. Their criteria is that you be over 65 with low income and little or no savings.

Independence at Home
Established in 1965, this charity has worked steadily to help improve independence, comfort, safety, dignity and quality of life for people with long-term illness and disability. Almost a quarter of their grants go towards the purchase of powered wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters to help recover lost independence.

Beama Foundation
Established on 1980 this charity provides grants of up to £250 for electrically operated aids which will increase mobility and independent living.
Applications must be made through a health professional such as a social worker, or occupational therapist.

Barchester Charitable Foundation
Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a registered charity that helps older people and other adults with a disability across England, Scotland & Wales. Providing grants to help people lead more fulfilled lives and reach their full potential.
Their mission is to make a difference to the lives of older people and other adults with a physical or mental disability; supporting practical solutions that lead to increased personal independence, self-sufficiency and dignity.
This year their focus is helping older people (65+) in our community, to improve mobility, independence and quality of life. These applicants receive our highest priority in 2013.
