SDP can only be claimed as an addition to a qualifying benefit, these are:

    Income Related JSA.
    Income Related ESA.
    Income Support.
    Housing Benefit.

Unless already on one of the first three then the only thing SDP can be included with is a new claim for Housing Benefit, and new claims for housing benefit can only be made for emergency accommodation provided by the council, accommodation with Care/Support included, or by pensioners.

I said back in July that the legislation governing benefits say that no premiums are payable if the claimant is “without accommodation”.
So no you can't get SDP when homeless, (even if getting one of those benefits), unless you are getting HB for being in emergency accommodation (or accommodation with nursing care/support).

And PS. the law changed last month,- having SDP no longer prevents you from migrating to UC.

Are you still living in a tent?
What is the Housing Officer at the council doing?
    Have you claimed UC yet?

    Where are you living now?

We went through ESA vs UC before, but I don't think that I set it out so:

You currently get £261.30 a fortnight with ESA. That's because you are in Support Group with the Enhanced Disability Premium.

If you switch to UC then as from April 6th you will get:
    £324.84 Standard Allowance
    £346.63 LCWRA Element
    £671.47 UC a month

That is the equivalent of £154.53 a week or the equivalent of £309.06 a fortnight with UC.

You will get more money with UC.

It may even be more than that depending on what they do about the covid uplift.

(If you claim UC before April 6th it will be an extra £20 a week more than that to start with because of the current covid uplift).

If/when you find somewhere to live then the UC Housing Element would be added to that to pay your rent.
