never want to live alone on such occasions like christmas
Best thing I did over Xmas was temporary leave Facebook. SO all the Merry Xmas etc just passed on by. I don't HATE Christmas. I just think its a time to self reflect and do what you damn well want. I avoided shops, didn't EXPECT much for Christmas, and I've GOT to do dialysis around it anyway without question. We had a few family members round on boxing day for a meal and that was it.
Additional rant - Why do people who I'm barely on nodding terms with expect me to shake their hands today?
Next year I think I'll revive a Scottish tradition and give them each a lump of coal and a "lang may yer lum reek"; that should confuse most of them.

I think the shaking hands thing is them wanting to pass on some deadly disease to you... bah humbug!
I wholeheartedly support your confusing people with coal though, it's always fun, just remember that many of the youngsters won't have even seen coal so maybe they'll think it's an expensive gift.

I just fell across this rant again when looking for something else.
And look what happened a couple of months later.
At least the 'You must all get together' ads and gossip news items should be missing or at least toned-down this year.
But no doubt the jolly idiots will still want to shake hands (or even kiss you) at Christmas and New Year.
I think I'll forget the New Year coal tradition and go with latex gloves instead.![]()

I would like to see pubs shut Christmas eve and New Years Eve. Reduce the temptation to socialise with everybody and anybody.
And spoil other peoples's enjoyment, not everyone is miserable being alone at Christmas & I talk from experience, there are a few benefits to living alone, eat what & when you like, having control of the TV remote, getting out of bed when you feel like it are just a few of the joys of living alone at Christmas or any other time.
