A lasting power of attorney does not last after the “donor” dies. The next of kin or executor of a will have the authority to deal with the deceased estate. Some banks don’t require probate for smaller bank accounts whereas others do. It’s so difficult dealing with a deceased love ones assets.
You can set a certain amount of money for funeral based on current rates and also a certain amount of money as you are not pretty sure about exact pricing.

sea queen: this is the very reason to have a funeral plan. The funeral is paid for as time goes by and you aren't facing unknown price increases. Just google funeral planning - you get many hits.

Do you get any divi with the coop?
They stopped paying 'the divi' a few years ago.
Instead you get 5p put into your account for every £1 that you spend on co-op brand goods.
You can pay for your shopping with it, or draw it out as cash, at anytime rather than waiting for the divi.
With their funerals and funeral plans it's slightly different.
You get a special member price, with a 5% discount on the cost of the plan.

Incorrect. My brother had POA for my mother and he had to authorise payments of bills, deal with solicitors after her death. A lasting POA is for if you are incapacitated, true, and after death and the reading of the will, the EXectutor of said will deals with finance.Originally Posted by firebird

There are 2 types of POA, to be noted, Finance and Health and Welfare. first is obvious, 2nd is to decide for example, if you need to go into a home or self care is obviously becoming too much. It means family can make decisions rather than the state about where the person goes.
