    DLA query

    Hi everyone

    Fantastic forums.

I am my son's appointee and full time Carer, he has Special needs/Aspergers Syndrome/Anxiety disorders/Learning difficulties and was first awarded HRC and LRM when he was 12 years old.

As this is due to expire a day before his 18th Birthday in Jan 2013, the renewal forms for DLA were sent last month, we received they received it on the 21 September (last month), and I received the letter to confirm this in the post 29th, so over a fortnight ago.

So with it being 3 weeks since they have had the form, and us receiving the acknowledgement letter, the letter states to contact them if nothing is heard within 8 weeks.

I understand that they may require further information, and wondered if anyone can please confirm if they will let you know if they will be writing to specialists/GP's etc if they do require further info?

As its' been over 5 years since my son was awarded, this is all new to me again now, and cannot remember how it all worked the last time, but from what I do remember they did write to let me know they were asking for further information from the school.

Of course he's no longer in an education establishment as such, although he is now 17, we had taken him out of school when he was 14 to have education otherwise, as his school could no longer provide him with the support, as his issues were very complexed, where he would keep going missing during lessons.

Any info on the process will be a great help, thank you.

They won't let you know if they are contacting the GP but as slipmaster says a further letter like that would be a good sign.
The actual decision letter will list any other evidence which they may have used in reaching the decision.

Well, DLA wrote to me and I have the letter to hand. Quite brief, mind you.
    Dear RaeUK

About the claim for Disability Living Allowance

We are sorry that we cannot give you a decision on the claim for Disability Living Allowance yet.

Our enquiries are taking longer than usual because we have requested a report from your GP.

    What happens next

We will write to you as soon as we can to tell you the decision on the claim.

Thank you all so much for getting back so quickly.

So it's now just a waiting game really, as it will only be coming up 4 weeks since they received the form for renewal, cheers.

If you're worried why not give them a phone call to see if they need anything more from you. A quick nudge may bring your paperwork forward.

Made contact, and was told that my son's claim is in the run of work waiting to be done, and if the decision maker does not require further info, we should hear of a decision about mid November.

So not that long to go really.

    Thank you.
