Mobile phone question

I am trying to find a flip phone, or clamshell I think they are also called, which has large font and easy to use keypad with numeric configuration.
I would like to have the internet and possibly a camera. I would also like to be able to pre-programme a number that it will ring or text with the touch of one button - I have been told most phones can do this.

They all seem to come with calendars, alarm etc as standard which is good.

This is proving quite difficult to find, as large font and easy to use keypads seem to mostly be on phones designed for elderly people and the assumption is that they need a simple phone and don't want any modern stuff on it. I have been to The Carphone Warehouse and another shop I've forgotten the name of and they were not very interested in helping me just had the updated version of Doro, as per link above. I really need to be able to see and feel it, unless I can get one on recommendation from someone, eg on this forum.
I want to keep up with modern technology and not have to get a 'simple' phone just because they seem to be the only ones with big enough font and easy keypad.

It depends on how much you can afford.

If you want to be able to use the internet, send emails, SMS text messages, take photos, stream you tube movies, play MP3 music files, take HD video then you're looking for a Smartphone. Clamshell phones are out.


Many phones have touch screens - no keyboards and they also hold address books so once you input a number and name you just open your address book and tap the name to dial.

The easiest to use is the Apple iphone and as they've just launched a new iphone go for the older one - the iphone4S

Thank you for going to the trouble to find one. Sorry I didn't make myself veryclear (as usual). I will use it mostlyfor texting, never for talking and by keypad I mean actual keys to press, not atouch screen. I need to be able to runmy thumb over them and feel them. That's why I was hoping to find a clamshellcos it would have the keypad and also a large screen. I don't want to stream movies, play music ortake videos, but would like to be able to search for things on the net, likedirections and locations and info when I am out and about – loos, theatres,shops etc and I would like to use it for twitter.
I was told about slider phones today: http://www.doro.co.uk/Experience/Products/Smartphone/ This is not available in this country yet andwill be nearly £300 so it’s out of the question, but I think that is the sortof thing that would suit me.

Choosing a mobile phone:

Keypad
Large buttons, raised keys and a raised dot on the number 5 will help you find the right button.
Large numbers and letters, in contrasting colours that stand out.
Buttons that make a sound or vibrate when you touch them. So that you can tell what you're pressing.

Display and screen
Choose a screen with good contrast and easy-to-read fonts.
Avoid shiny screens that give off a lot of glare.
Back lighting also helps - you can change how long the screen lights up for.
Some phones let you switch to large print.

Useful features
Voice dialling. So you can call someone by saying their name.

Speed or one-touch dialling. So you don't have to type as much.

Sound settings. So you can hear when your phone's starting up and shutting down. And when you battery's low, empty, charging and full.

A camera with zoom so you can use it like a magnifying glass.

Personalised ring-tones. You can use different ring-tones for different contacts on your phone so you can tell who's calling.

Hands-free

Hands-free kits or Bluetooth headsets help make your phone less fiddly. Most let you answer calls without touching your phone (so you don't have to search for it).
