Getting a baby/child in a car seat from a wheelchair

Hi there,

I’m new here :-) hello to all!

My partner and I have got to the stage where we are thinking about having a family. I work with children so I am aware of all the challenges that I, as a wheelchair user could face. I am in the process of having a wonderful buggy made for me that attaches to my chair but my biggest hurdle is how I will get the child into the car seat from a seated position. I drive a corsa and have a roof box to put my wheelchair in. I’m really reluctant to get a ‘drive in’ car because I don’t like big cars! Anyone found a solution to this?!

Sounds like some form of hoist may be useful, simpler type than used for scooters and wheelchairs, more rope and pulley. That sounds primitive, but I am sure some of the firms that specialise in disability solutions can make something suitable and elegant.

Hi guys,

Thank you so much for your replies :-) I have been using remap for the buggy attatchment to my chair. I have semi discussed the topic of getting a child in the car with the man who is helping me but I wanted to try and get an idea if anyone else had any solutions that I could bring to the board when I speak to the man from remap again!
