    Disabled facilities grant

I have started a DFG request for a downstairs toilet and washbasin, they have said on the phone that the grant if approved is means tested, but i can’t find any threshold amounts online, it just says about income and savings giving no direct amounts.

I have a reasonable works pension and enhanced on both elements of pip as income, my partner claims carers allowance for me and we have a few thousand tucked away.

As anybody got any experience of DFG’s and did they have to pay towards the adaption.
I am registered blind and struggle to navigate up/down the stairs all the time, any thoughts of this and do you think i might be successful in my claim.

I think the thresholds vary between council to council. I was turned down for a stairlift by my council because we had savings and small occupational pensions. The stairlift wiped out most of our savings.
The only way to find out is to wait for the result of your application.

It may not happen in your case, just wait and see. I hope you are successful.
I now think it is not worth working and saving for your future, it just gets taken off you.
Of course there are people who have been unable through illness and disability to work and save, I don't begrudge them a penny.

Beau, with reading your posts over the years i know you were on DLA then over to PIP, but was it a disregard on the means test if you can remeber because i asked them on the phone and they weren’t sure

When we applied for DFG DLA wasn't taken into account.
We had bathroom and toilet knocked into 1 and a wet room fitted .We paid to have different tiles because the council wanted to put little white public toilet tiles on as I call them.We also had a stair lift fitted.I can't remember what the amount of savings we were allowed but I know we didn't have much.Apply for the DFG and see what they say .If you don't qualify at least you can say you tried.
We had the grant in 2010 I think it was.
Try and google DFG and see if you can find anything more out about them.
    Good luck

Scotty, if you can't get a grant and you have to try to finance it yourself would a stairlift be of any use as a cheaper option
