Why is it that most cars on motability are for abled body persons. I have to use a wheelchair so it must be comfortable big enough to get my elec wheelchair and Automatic I must have a hoist etc. Yet the deposits and costs are just so exorbitant. and another thing why cant we have some disabled parking bays for wheelchair users ( ONLY ) I can never find a place to unlode my wheelchair its all taken up by people who can walkit makes me so angry as life is hard enough as it is.
I do agree with you tbh, i find most disabled bays don't leave enough space between cars to get your wheel chair and do think there should be more automatics on the scheme and should also be cheaper, but they are a non profit charity maby they can't afford to bring the prices down im not sure tbh.
As some one who has a large wav , I can either drive from wheelchair or put drivers chair in , which is what I do now.
The problem is that where I live ther are disabled bays that are for wheelchair users (there's are a fee of 25 quid for a fob to raise the barrier) but its with people with no chairs that park there and my van is to high to get under the barrier so I can't use it. But I can't see the point of having a 2 tier system for disabled , what is needed is more bays.

There are a limited number of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAVs) but these are limited and more expensive due to the specialist nature of the vehicle and each one is customised to suit the driver.Why is it that most cars on motability are for abled body persons. Cost - you probably find the cost is cheaper if you buy a used vehicle. It's probably cheaper if you also bought the WAV over 5 years.
If you find raising the deposit if your finances are tight then contact Motability and ask if they would pay a large chunk of the deposit - after all they are a charity. Otherwise other funding options are charities/foundations, Trusts relating to your impairment - they are usually helpful with advance payments for deserving causes like yourself.
NOTE The main factor in this - don't place an order for a WAV until you find funding for the advance payment. And you will be expected to contribute as much as you can afford towards the advance payment even if it's just a few hundred pounds.
If you are working and need a WAV in order to carry out part of your job role then 'Access to Work' would fund the majority of the AP however much you earned - but remember it's a 'self referral scheme'

Prices came down on a lot of car on the mobility scheme from the 1st July yet WAV prices went up
Motability are now leasing used WAV's for three years which are used. They are less then two years old and deposits are from £50:00. Close to me we have a dealer who sells ex WAV's and as said it would be better to buy one as they sure do go down in value rapid. 2008/2009 WAV's can be brought for £6000/£7000. As i now need a WAV when my current lease expires that is what im hoping to be able to do? Have a look at Lifestyle magazine and look at the various Convertors and look for use if you dont wish to buy. I know Constables are doing a used Kangoo for £50:00 deposit. A few weeks back Allied Vehicles were doing an offer of £795 on their New Peugoet Horizon instead of £1195:00. Wish you luck.

I have to agree that Motability does seem to cater almost exclusivity for the able-bodied who do not need automatic gearboxes. There are larger cars but in my case each time renewal comes round I always have to find a sisable deposit. However I have heard that if you discuss your requirements with them they do try and help.
