Hi folks, first-timer and glad to be aboard.

Apparently there have been significant changes to the BB scheme in Scotland, as a result of a Members Bill in the Holyrood parliament, which has serious implications for the disabled.

The changes include the personal Disabled Parking Bays displayed at residential accomodation, is no longer legal entitlement for the disabled resident, and can now be used by random Blue Badge holder, depriving the regular driver.

The BB sign, with an ID code number displayed, originally posted alongside the Disabled Parking bay is no longer valid, and has been replaced with an 8ft high sign with the logo, 'Blue badge holders only' to invite random usage. Not a helpful situation for a disabled driver returning from GP or hospital visits, to a congested parking place, and unable to gain access to house for medication or shelter.

In addition the white painted Disabled bays, were originally an advisory facility, which able-bodied drivers observed unanimously, but has now Legal status. Caution is urged, for Scottish BB users -- Johncg5

The space doesn't belong to the resident it belongs to the council. It's there for the convenience of any blue blue user. This is useful if you need to park somewhere and it's free but yes annoying if it's the space outside your house.
I can see why so many people change their front garden for a parking space then you have the legal right to park there at least.

There is a note in wikipedia about the successful members bill at Holyrood by a Labour MSP<2009 brought into being act by Scottish Parliament with unanimous support of all MSPs, to alllow for greater protection of disabled parking spaces.>johncg5

Rasy: Ownership misses the point and not requested, only a measure of consideration for the formally registered
disabled resident. Formal removal of the BB ID accompanying a residential disabled bay, only encourages abusive misuse.

Incidentally, people create driveways primarily for safety, I've had 3 cars written off, and car insurance is cheaper for off-road parking, especially in notable high risk areas. johncg5
