When I joined this forum it took a few days for the confirmation email to arrive. I filled in the form on Friday morning and the email came on Sunday morning.

That's odd because those emails are usually automatically generated, I assume it's the same here.

There again; on a totally different forum where I moderate I got a Private Message on Friday from a new registration who also had not got his confirmation email. (Although we had 15 other new members that day who had got it).

Maybe it was something to do with a mail server somewhere in the world having a hiccup?
It does happen now and again.

Just another point to bear in mind if you are waiting for a confirmation email from a forum (or anywhere else).

As well as your normal inbox check you 'Spam' inbox.

Because these confirmation emails contain automatic reply links, (that send an authorisation code back to the forum when you reply), sometimes your email server will flag them as "iffy" and put them into your Spambox.
(That was what had hapened with the guy I mentioned above).

It is not the delay that is being reported here, but it is something else to check if you don't get the email you are expecting.

There is a delay on posts being approved too. Was waiting 3 days to see a reply. Don't think the mods look in often enough.

Something weird has been happening this last weekend! I don't know if this post will come in as the last two posts (one on Friday and another on Saturday) have disappeared into the ether.

If this forum has been seeing the same as the one where I moderate we have been very busy this last weekend.

I know a lot of forums (especially UK based ones) have been coping with a large spammer attack which started on Friday.
At our place we had 180+ new registrations by spammers on Fri/Sat and another 250+ on Sat/Sun.

Each one of these has to be individually checked and then individually banned.
Some I can tell at a glance, others will take 5-10 mins each to check.

All of which takes time when we could be doing other things (like approving genuine posts that have been put in the moderation queue).

There are other measures we can take (I won't make it easy for spammers by saying what they are), but this will inevitably impact on usage by genuine forum members.

It seems to have calmed down now that the Bank Holiday is over.

Time DLF upgraded the site. A site I moderate on has upgraded from this format twice since YA has been like this. Spam filters are very good and rarely does a spammer get through.
I know it will cost so that is probably the problem, DLF do not want to fork out the money even though it can be done relatively cheaply.
The site I moderate on is very specialist but relies totally on donations so if they can do it why can't a large organisation?

I'm waiting a long time for my posts to be approved and to appear too.
